  2. Who is the VTA? • Industry Association • Representing freight carriers • 103 years old • Representation across the spectrum of industrial, professional, regulatory and environmental issues

  3. Why are we here? To • Develop stronger relationship with LGA’s • Talk about important freight related issues • Raise the understanding and appreciation of freight movement • Gather your views on how to lift freight productivity in a sustainable way

  4. 80:20 rule • LGA’s have • 80% of route kilometres • 20% of commercial vehicle kilometres • Not enough funding!

  5. What do we know? • Freight is growing • 1% faster than GDP • A predicted doubling every 15 years or so • Growth is uneven • Urban growth is strong • Some regional growth is strong

  6. Who and what is generating the freight? • Domestic consumption • Including strong import growth • Exports • Anything else?

  7. Economic development • What is the economic development projection for the SEATS area? • What are the freight implications?

  8. Does SEATS have a freight strategy? • Where are the freight generators? • How much is through traffic • What comes out of the hinterland? • What is the expected growth? • Is freight on rail important?

  9. What is SEATS attitude to high productivity vehicles? • What is a high productivity vehicle? • Why would anyone want to use one? • What can it do for us? • Who approves these vehicles? • When will they be on the road?
