Graduation Requirements • 1 year World Language • 1 year Technology • ½ year Health • 50 Elective Credits • CAHSEE • 25 hours Community Service • 4 years Language Arts • 4 yrs. Social Studies • 3 years Mathematics • 3 years Science • 3 years P.E. • 1 year Visual and Performing Arts
Community Service • 25 hours of community service must be completed by the end of JUNIOR year! • 150 hours awards students with Distinguished Community Service. • Important for college applications. • Important for scholarship applications. • Students can visit the College & Career Center to find community service opportunities.
Grades, Credits, Transcripts • Progress Reports: P or NM (2 each semester) • Quarter Report Cards: A, B, C, NM (1each semester) • Semester Report Cards: A, B, C, NC (1 each semester) • 250 Credits Required for Graduation • Each course –10 credits per year (courses are year-long) • May earn 80 credits per year • Transcripts Reflect Semester Grades • December and June • Repeating Classes • Summer School/Night School • NC stays on transcript
Summer School and Night School Night School (Juniors and Seniors only) • Registration takes place the first few weeks of each semester. • Applications are picked up and returned in the Counseling Center. • Night school courses meet graduation requirements, but do not meet college entrance requirements Summer School (grades 9-11) • Summer school registration forms are available in April. • Applications are picked up and returned in the Counseling Center. • Summer school dates – TBD • Courses meet college prep requirements
Counselor Timeline-Freshman Year • January • Review Graduation Requirements • Introduction to Transcript and Graduation Petition • April • Select courses for Sophomore Year • Will bring 6 year plan home for review and parent signature
Course Selection Process for Sophomore Year • April – Counselor visit to Geography classes • Course selections • Six required classes Sophomore year • Two elective choices • Advanced and Advanced Placement Courses – need approval • Parent signature required on Six Year Plan • Course verifications sent out in May
Advanced Placement, Honors and Advanced Courses • AP/Honors and Advanced courses are offered in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Foreign Language and Visual and Performing Arts • Require a serious approach to studies with additional time and commitment to homework • AP courses may receive college credit or meet college pre-requisites • AP test must be taken in order to receive AP credit • Attend AP Information Night on March 20th at 6:30 in the WHS Cafeteria for additional information.

UC/CSU Testing Requirements • ACT with Writing or SAT Reasoning (Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) • Beginning with the Class of 2012 the two SAT Subject Tests are NO LONGER required for UC admission. Check individual campuses and majors for recommendations for testing.
Counselor Timeline-Junior Year • March – US History Classes • Review transcripts/update Graduation Petition • Select courses for senior year, discuss post secondary options, timeline for college admission testing and college admission • May – Language Arts Classes • Final Graduation Petition completed and sent home for parent signature
Student Timeline-Junior Year • Spring Semester • Discuss college options with parents (4 yr, 2 yr, Tech, Military, Apprenticeships) • Research college programs • UC • CSU • California Private/Independent • Register for spring ACT/SAT exams • Attend AP Honors Night March 20, 2013 • Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if considering 4-year college sports
Student Timeline-Junior Year • Spring Semester • Answer additional questions on CST/STAR test to qualify for EAP for CSU and Sierra College • Visit college campuses during spring break • Register for summer school – if necessary • Research Senior Scholarships posted in the WHS Career Center

Student Timeline-Junior Year • May • Review course selection – make changes NOW! • Take SAT Reasoning/AP Exams • Attend WHS Senior Activities Night – May • Turn in graduation petition/senior contract in order to pick up senior schedule in August! • Document completed Community Service!! • Prepare your resume/letter of recommendation request form for next fall
Student Timeline- Junior Year • June/July • Take SAT Subject Tests and ACT • Visit college campuses, narrow choices (comparison and questions may be found on the WHS website) • Create account on CSU Mentor if considering California State campuses • Create an account on UC website if considering UC campuses • Complete Community Service!!
What’s Next -Senior Year • First semester transcript review by counselor to ensure eligibility for graduation • Classroom presentations- Discuss letters of Recommendation, college admission, etc. • Senior Parent Night- September • Cover everything you need to know for Senior year!
