The Historical Event • Before the Civil War occurred, the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln. The Emancipation Proclamation was a document that declared slaves to being free only in the states that are not under Union control.
Background to the Crisis • The crisis is the Civil War. • The North and the South are involved. • It started at Fort Sumter in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina • It happened on April 12, 1861 • The reason why the Civil War occurred was because Lincoln had no intention of ending slavery where it exited or repealing Fugitive Slave Law which did not make the confederacy happy so on April 12, 1861 they attacked Fort Sumter and that was the beginning of the Civil War.
What are the Options • One option is take action but to not let slaves in enlist to fight in the war • A second option is to not take action to let fugitive slaves that was declared “contraband of the war "and if found to aid the Confederacy would find out the consequences.
The Decision • The decision was the option two. To not take action and to let fugitive slaves that was declared “contraband of the war” and if found as an aid to the Confederacy was declared free. • The reason Lincoln chose this option is because
The Result • As the Northern army moved South thousands of fugitives crossed the Union lines. Although the government tried to get them confiscated land it wasn’t enough. Then they had organized school so women and children could learn how to read and write.
The Hindsight • I feel like this was the right decision because everyone should be equal and have equal rights.
