    3. Construction of passive: Be + past participle (3rd column) Is + made was + done Ex. This dish is made with pasta. The offices are cleaned every day.

    4. Usage We can always say things in two ways: 1/ active voice: Picasso painted Guernica. 2/ passive voice: Guernica was painted by Picasso.

    5. Use of Passive used when the focus is on the action it is not important or known who or what does or did the action Ex. The movie was made in New Zealand. I was robbed.

    6. you make the object of an action into the subject of a sentence

    7. Look at this sentence: He was stabbed with a knife. ! Normally we use by to introduce the object. But! the knife can not become the active subject. We can not say: The knife stabbed him. - The knife did not kill him. - He was killed by somebody with a gun.

    8. Finish the sentence with by or with The computer was repaired ___ my friend. He was called off ____ a pager. They were given their last warning ____ the headmaster. We were beaten ____ snow balls. The president was shot _____ a gun. She was treated _____ injection shots.

    9. Game: guess the object Write down 3 objects, do not show them to anybody! Ask questions that use the passive voice to find out what the objects are. Examples of questions: 1/ What is it used for? 2/ What is it made of? 3/ Where is it found? 4/ Where is it bought? 5/ Who is it used by?

    10. Exercises: Make passive sentences 1/ A patient delayed Chris when he was leaving the hospital. 2/ The car blocked the gate for two hours. 3/ I had to take my dog to the vet. 4/ The teachers explanation confused me. 5/ The police caught the thieves. 6/ The dog bit the children badly.

    12. Passive voice with different tenses 1/ present simple: The car is washed every week. 2/ present simple continuous: The cake is being baked. 3/ present perfect: It has been done many times before!
