Good film • Entire kidneys to bladder and symphysis pubis(might need two 14 x17 crosswise) • No rotation • Abdomen technique to see soft tissue
Before you start IVP: • Prep yes or no • HX • Ask about pregnancy • Emergency drugs are in room, Oxygen? • Consent form • Creatinine level 65 and older and on all diabetic patients • Empty bladder • Explain exam to patient
The IVP exam can detect problems within the urinary tract resulting from: • kidney stones • enlarged prostate • tumors in the kidney, ureters or urinary bladder • function problems
An IVP shows the anatomy and function of the kidneys and lower urinary tract.

IVP FILMS • KUB (scout) • Tomogram (scout) 10 x12 cw or 11x14 cw • Contrast given • Immediate film over kidneys 10 x12 cw or 11x14 cw • 3 kidney tomograms (7cm, 8cm,9cm) • 5 min 14 x17lw AP (full film) • 7,8 min 14 x17 lw LPO and RPO • 10 min 14 x 17 lw PA (full film) • AP 14 x 17 lw upright • Show films • Could ask for voiding films or spots • Post Void AP 8 x10 cw over the bladder • Post Void LPO and RPO for UV junction
Films • All 14 x 17 films need kidneys, ureters and bladder on the film • All 10x12 films need the kidneys on • All 8 x10 films need all of the bladder on
Good film • No motion on films * except tomograms • Spine down center of film • Mark films with time, cm, scout, upright, postvoid and R and L markers
RPO/LPO • 30 Degrees obliquity • RPO shows Rt kidney and ureter • LPO shows the Lt kidney and ureter • Bladder films RPO/ LPO (10-15 degrees) • RPO demonstrates the left UV • LPO demonstrates the right UV
