We have worked with over 200 schools, most have a story and data to share. • Explore – We recently launch a new section of our site that can empower student research and social sharing of school PV energy production. Easy to print, download, share and submit homework. • www.solar4rschools.org/explore-data • Learn – Focused on providing teachers with access to PV energy and other renewable energy learning activities. Major updates should be complete by 2013.

Measuring the Sun’s Energy • Irradiance: the amount of power received from the sun over a given area of earth • Typically measured in Watts per Square-Meter • W/m2 or kW/m2 • Cumulative Irradiance (Insolation): the amount of energy that hits an area over a certain period of time • Typically measured in Watt-Hours per Square-Meter • W-hr/m2 or kW-hr/m2

  6. Effects of Atmosphere • The lower the angle of the Sun in the sky, the more atmosphere the Sun’s rays must pass through to reach earth and therefore the less energy those rays have when they reach earth.
