Starter • What costume would the actors wear to play these characters: • Jim • Tony • Mr Welland • Stubby • Miranda
Scene thirteen • At this point why does Jim visit his imaginary world? • Are their any links to the first scene where he was in this world?
How is the theme of Friendship explored in Act 1 scene 15? • ALL shall use Pee structure to respond to task • MOST shall use events and quotes from previous scenes • SOME shall use connectives between PEE chains to make the response cohesive
Use the points below to help. Note: there is not just one answer for each. • How does Miranda pursue friendship with Jim? • What evidence is there of a humorous relationship between Stubby and Jim? • How does Jim help Stubby?
Writing PEE paragraphs Point: Miranda actively pursues a friendship with Jim. Evidence: This is evident the line... We see this in the line where Miranda says... This is shown in the phrase... This is clear / highlighted in the line “Miranda holds out some bars of chocolate”. Explanation: The stage directions instruct the actress playing Miranda to use gesture to show that she is willing to be friends. The chocolate bar can be seen as a way that she is reaching out to Jim, sharing something with like and it could be seen as her giving him a peace offering. The gesture is repeated later in the scene. This shows that she is persistent and won’t give up on Jim. The chocolate bar could be seen as a metaphor for their friendship, so when Jim accepts it, it might show a willingness to be Miranda’s friend.
Jim’s behaviour grid • Jim cuts the clothes Mrs Welland buys for him • Jim tells Stubby Miranda is horrible. • Jim encourages Stubby to climb • Jim throws the dustbin lid through the takeaway window
