  1. Eukaryote • any organism having a cell type that contains specialized organelles in the cytoplasm, a membrane-bound nucleus enclosing genetic material organized into chromosomes

  2. Asexual Reproduction • Production of offspring from only one parent organism.

  3. Sexual Reproduction • Production of offspring from the combination of genetic material from two parent organisms.

  4. Kingdom • In taxonomy, a group of similar phyla or divisions. • Largest and most general category in taxonomy.

  5. Domain • One of three large groups that all living things fall into.

  6. Population • Organisms of the same species living together in the same area.

  7. Community • Populations of organisms living in an ecosystem.

  8. Ecosystem • All of the living and non-living things in an area that function as a system.

  9. Prokaryote • any cellular organism that has no nuclear membrane, no organelles in the cytoplasm except ribosomes

  10. Autotroph • An organism that makes its own food.

  11. Heterotroph • An organism that gets its food by eating other organisms.

  12. Biotic • The living parts of the ecosystem; means “living”; includes plants and animals.

  13. Organism • A living thing.

  14. Abiotic • The non-living parts of the ecosystem; means “without life”; includes water, light, air, temperature, soil, rocks, and wind.
