Financial and Social Literacy Program Urban Livelihood Session – III Objective – Children should know the difference between Self- Employed and Employed by others, Permanent Job and Temporary Job and Regular income and Irregular Income
Black Board Know the secret School Teacher, Doctor, Auto Driver, Shop keeper, Vegetable Seller, Civil Engineer, Mobile Repair Mechanic etc.
Revision of Last session (Rural Livelihood in 5 minutes) • Divide the class in to different groups ie. Each row will be treated as a group • Tell the children that today we will reveal the secret of the nature of the jobs our parents do • Make a table on board and name it as Team A Team B Team C etc. Also make a box at the corner of the board ‘ Know the Secret’ • Make a table having two columns viz. Self-Employed and Employed by others • Distribute the blank page to each one of them
Aflatoun wants to know the different jobs your parents do. Now, ask three children to answer from each row and write it in the ‘know the secret’ box (Please see you can increase or decrease the no. of children depending upon the no. of rows. The jobs must not be more than 12) • Now the game starts • From the ‘know the secret’ box pick the job and ask the teams to answer whether it falls in Self-Employed or Employed by others category. Any child from the his/her respective team can answer
If the answer is correct, the team is given 1 point and if wrong then 0 point. • Keep playing till you are done with all the job options. • Do the total, motivate the lagging team to come up in the second round. • Now, Make another table with two columns viz. Permanent and Temporary Jobs.
Again from the ‘know the secret’ box pick the jobs one by one and ask the teams to answer whether it is a permanent job or temporary job. • Relate the permanent job with regular income (on a fixed date / monthly income ex. School teacher, bank manager etc.) and temporary job with irregular income (one day it could be more and on the other it could be very less ex. shop keeper, vegetable seller etc.) • Refer to the activity in Rural Livelihood. Paddy farming for 6 months and then job less for rest 6 months.
Give them situations like, if your father has his own grocery shop then is he self-employed or he has been employed under someone and is his income regular or irregular and if your father works in some body else’s shop then is he self-employed or he has been employed under someone and is his income regular or irregular • Give them points according to the answers. 1 point for correct and 0 for incorrect answer
Do the total and distribute two toffees each to the winning team • Collect the sheets • Take the attendance • End of session
