Objectives • To understand what holiness is • To examine Paul’s call to develop holiness • To understand why we are called to be holy • To examine five habits that assist us in becoming holy, and to begin to practice them
Why Holiness? God tells us to be holy 1 Peter 1:15-16 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ--their Lord and ours… 1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
Discussion Question What does it mean to be holy?

Work with a partner • Determine the problem in chapter 4 • List the things Timothy is supposed to do.
Timothy’s Directions • Point these things out to the brothers • False teachings • Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales • Train yourself to be godly

How do we become godly? • Pray • Read your Bible • Go to church

Holiness appears 25 times • Do a word study on holy and/or holiness. • Using a concordance (or online Bible) review at least 30 verses and make at least 10 observations about what is holy • Focus on one habit. Track it for 30 days; making note of what you did, and what God did
