Activity -- How are we learning this? • Completing the Chart of the gods and reading Chapter 3 of Everything Classical Mythology • Review PowerPoint (Epic) and Who is Homer?

Monday, January 11 Objective – what am I learning today? • Evaluate the role of the hero and archetypes in the epic Activity – How am I doing this? • Complete “The Hero” Writing Task • Read “Tell The Story” and “Calypso: the Sweet Nymph”. Annotate for setting, actions of the hero, archetypes, figurative language

View segment from “Troy” (Tell the Story”); Read “Calypso” pages 890-893 and complete Reflective Journal.

7. Tuesday January 12 (6th & 7th period) Question of the day-- What character archetype are you most like? Why? Use your notes from “The Myth, The Hero and The Epic” PowerPoint presentation if you need help.

8. Wednesday, January 13, 2009 • What am I learning today? (Objective) I am reviewing what symbolism is and looking for examples it in classical literature. How am I learning it? (Activity) • I am reviewing the definition of symbol • I am reading “Cyclops”— p. 899-909 and completing the Reflection journal

9. Thursday, January 14 What am I learning? How diction (word choice) and imagery (controlling images, figurative language, understatement, overstatement, irony) impact The Odyssey’s form. How am I learning it? I’m reading “The Beggar and the Faithful Dog” (p.932) and “Death at the Palace” (p. 941)
