The EU EMODNET-Hydrography pilot project. EMODNET-Hydrography objectives. EU (DG MARE) : service contracts for creating pilot components of EMODNET
E N D
EMODNET-Hydrography objectives • EU (DG MARE) : service contracts for creating pilot components of EMODNET • EMODNET : To migrate fragmented and inaccessible marine data into interoperable, continuous and publicly available data streams for complete maritime basins • Pilot components : To define processes, best technology and approximate costs of a final EMODNET • Hydrography portal : one of the portals developed as part of the preparatory actions
EMODNET-Hydrography : partnership • 7 partners : MARIS, ATLIS (NL), IFREMER, SHOM (FR), NERC/NOCS (UK), GSI (IE), IEO (ES) • 2 associated partners : ISMAR-CNR (IT), UNEP-GRID Arendal (NO, int. Organization) • 5 data providers : HO’s from Germany, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands and Belgium
EMODNET-Hydrography : approach • To involve institutes, authorities and HO’s in providing hydrographic data sets for producing Digital Terrain Models with resolution of 0.25*0.25 minute • To use a metadata discovery service : SeaDataNet CDI metadata standard • To develop a high-end hydrographic portal : • Powerful spatial database for the DTMs • WMS services (OGC) • Access to the background data via the CDI

EMODNET-Hydrography : website • www.emodnet-hydrography.eu
EMODNET-Hydrography : product portal • Zoom in NW Mediterranean • Identification of the most represented source at each cell by its Data Holding Center
EMODNET-Hydrography : website • Coverage of imported DTM’s and sample of CDI’s
EMODNET-Hydrography : product portal • Comparison for Ligurian Sea GEBCO EMODNET
EMODNET-Hydrography : coming activities • Gather more data sets (survey/composite DTM’s) • Produce the 2nd release of the regional DTM’s • Gather more metadata of both surveys and composite DTM’s • Develop the 2nd release of the portal
EMODNET-Hydrography : expansion • New contract for the consortium : Seabed Mapping project • 3 additional maritime regions (Iberian Coast and Bay of Biscay, Adriatic Sea and Aegean-Levantine Sea) • Assessment of the total available coverage by multibeam surveys • Estimate of the total effort (time and money) required to map deep and shallow waters • 3 new partners : OGS (IT), HCMR (GR), UNEP/GRID-Arendal • 2 associated partners : IHPT and INETI (PT)
