UME Good News (1) • GIEI Kickoff at Governor’s Residence • Monthly speaker series with MG • Impact study underway for GIEI • Annie’s Project expansion • Nine sites in MD and Del; follow-up impact study; JOE article

UME Recognized Nationally • Growing Healthy Habits curriculum accepted by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation • Teresa McCoy, Liat Mackey & Lorrain Harley were invited to present at the National Food Safety Conference • Presentations at the National Extension Directors meeting
National Extension Picture • University of Illinois • Cutting 46 CEDs & 12 offices • University of Georgia • Laying off 1400, closing ½ Ext. offices • University of Nevada • Closing College of Ag • Virginia Tech • Bill to close 8 offices, consolidate 13 offices, cut FCS and Gardening
Budget - Federal • President’s proposed budget for Smith-Lever is flat: $297.5 Mil. • ECOP’s funding goal is: $350 Mil. • For UME, this would be: $588,207 • One pager developed • PILD Conference is taking place this week in DC: promoting UME & funding
NIFA / AFRI Competitive Funding • $700 M. annually through FY 12 • Focus is on large and impactful grants • Must have clear and measurable outcomes and behavior / practice change • Conference grants are highly applicable to Extension • See: http://www.nifa.usda.gov
UMCP Budget FY2011 • Part of UM’s cut ($10 Mill) will be covered by through furloughs • Awaiting final word from UM: we prepared for a 2% cut and 2% reallocation • This involves utilizing federal EFNEP funding; adjustments with FSNE funding and vacant lines
Budget - State • Initiatives that are underway: Community Development – including financial management, • Multi-state work with PSU on Fruit Pathology • Cost Recovery • Meant to generate funding that can be invested into supporting your programming efforts
Budget - Local • UME is seeing effects of the down economy on local budgets • Wide range from flat to 20% cuts & greater • Baltimore City situation • Strong work by Manami & EAC to reach out to City Council • Taxpayer night on May 10 at 5:30
UME Nutrient Management Program • Recent developments • Plan for FY11 • UME will continue with plan writing • Plan for FY12 • Will be determined
AGNR Assistant Director • National Search closes on April 30 • Search committee meets in early May • Interviews end of May – early June • Take part and provide your input to the search committee • Goal is to have someone in the position by September
UME Impact Teams • Our Impact Teams will help position us for the future • Programming, Resources, Impact • Emphasis on multidisciplinary programming • Organizational teamwork will enable us to show measurable impacts across the state

UME Annual Conference • UME Annual Conference was canceled for this year because of budget cuts • May 24 (Admin Monday) will be all day meeting for Impact Team co-leaders • Hold remaining Admin Mondays
