  1. POISON IVY Poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac are the most common plants that cause a skin rash. A sap that comes from these plants causes the rash. The sap causes an allergic reaction, not everyone reacts to the sap

  2. HOW TO GET POISON IVY Touch it Touch clothing or shoes that have come in contact with the sap Touch pets that have come in contact with sap Smoke from the burning of the plants

  3. PREVENTION OF THE IVY If you have come in contact with the poison: Do the following within 6 hours Remove all clothes that have touched plant Wash with soap and water Apply rubbing alcohol to the parts affected Rinse with water

  4. RECOGNITION OF THE PLANTS Poison Ivy and poison oak both have 3 leaflets per stem. “Leafs of three, let them be” Poison Sumac has a row of six to ten leaflets. One leaf is at the end of the stem. The others are in two rows

  6. First Aid for Poison Ivy Wash all clothes Keep hands away from eyes, and face Do not scratch Apply any of these to rash Calamine (not caladryl) lotion Zinc Oxide 3 teaspoons of baking soda mixed with 1 teaspoon of water Benadryl
