ELEKTRONIKOS ĮTAISAI 2007 Acoustic Wave Electronic Devices • Integrated circuits (ICs) were proposed by J.Kilby and R.Noyce in 1959. • At present small ICs contain to 108 elements. The problem of miniaturization of electronic circuits (especially – digital circuits) is solved. • Integrated circuits do not solve some problems: • Usually only the circuits similar to those used in discrete electronics can be integrated in the ICs. • The ICs contain only transistors, diodes, resistors and sometimes capacitors. Practically inductive elements, necessary for filters, delay lines and other components, cannot be realized in ICs. • New methods of processing of electronic signals become possible on the base of the new effects. As a result, the functional electronics (optical, acoustic, magnetic, spin electronics) was developed. • As a result of the search of ways to miniaturize filters, delay lines and other components, acoustic waves have been used for processing of signals. • Surface acoustic wave devices are the most important acoustic wave devices.
