Hook Vocabulary • Enigma: an unsolvable problem • Czar: A Russian ruler. • Bolshevik: participant in the Russian Revolution, member of Communist Party • Capitalism: economic system based on private ownership, competition, profit • Socialism: Marx’s theory- stage between capitalism and communism, production and capital are owned by the community. • Communism: Marx’s theory- the gov’t is unneeded, collective ownership of property, decisions in the hands of the people. • Cold war: 1945-1991- high tension between US & USSR as they compete as the world’s two superpowers.
