AGS Cold Snake Status and Plan • Haixin Huang August 18, 2005 RSC meeting
New Equipments/Applications • Added compensation quads for warm snake. • Rearranged the compensation quads scheme for cold snake. • Repaired vertical tune quads to push vertical tune high near top energy. • New tune meter which gives both tunes. • Faster DAQ for CNI polarimeter, added 45 degree detectors. Haixin Huang
Cold Snake Timeline • Jan 16: Started Booster and AGS Setup. • Jan 21: Threaded beam through with both snake on at desired current. • Jan. 22-28: Fine tuning the orbit and compensation magnets settings to raise vertical tune into desired tune window. • Jan 24: CNI polarimeter detected carbon events. • Jan. 28: B field scan to compare polarization levels at G=45.5 and 46.5. • Jan. 30: Start extraction setup at G=45.5. Beam is seen at W dump. Haixin Huang
Polarization • Polarization measured as >50% with 6*1010(the intensity used in the field scan). Crank intensity up to 11* 1010 and 44% polarization is measured. • With Booster scraping completely removed, AGS late intensity is about 1.3-1.4* 1011. No polarization measurement with this intensity yet. • Injection polarization measurement gives 75+-5% polarization by E880 polarimeter at injection, consistent with source polarization at the time. Booster should be well corrected. Haixin Huang

Vertical Polarization Profile limit of the horizontal resonance effect from 84 horizontal resonances. It is about 5% in the relative scale. Haixin Huang
Vertical Component at C15 Polarimeter (fromJunpei) Vertical component at L20 = -0.992 Vertical component at C15 = -0.952 The ratio of vertical components at C15 and Ext: .952/.992=0.960 CSNK=2.5T WSNK=1.53T
Plan • Extraction setup will continue. • Study the intensity effect from both accelerator and polarimeter aspects. • Continue tune scan at several intrinsic resonances. • Explore the possibility to put horizontal tune close to integer (not a short term project). Haixin Huang
