YOU ARE THE JUDGE Prepared by: Mr. Greg Coriarty
Good employment opportunity is available to Ellie She fails to make the call for an interview She offers many reasons why no call has been made Are there good reasons for not making the call? Ellie Ekuse
What Options Does Ellie Have? • Call and arrange a time for the interview and then be a no call, no show for the interview • Make a list of items that Ellie needs to accomplish including the phone call for an interview, if she fails to make the call today put it on the to-do list for tomorrow • Ignore the entire situation, but tell the coordinator that you made the call and there are no openings • Immediately make the call to arrange an interview time
Action Arrange time but be a no call, no show Make list but procrastinate on making the call Lie to your coordinator Immediately call Reaction Damage your reputation, lost opportunity Good intent, poor follow through, eventual damage to reputation Lose trust and faith, instant damage to reputation The only choice, gain trust, build good reputation What Would You Recommend?
Freddie Fickle • Arranged for an interview with one of our best employers/mentors • Failed to show – TWICE • Has good reasons – Are there any good reasons? • Could not find employer’s workplace • Did not have enough gas • Does not like the type of work
Keep his commitment, arrange another interview, but sabotage his chances by showing up late Ride his bike to the interview, carry his bike and gear into the office Call for another interview, tell them that he is not interested but is being forced by me, his WBL coordinator, to arrange an interview Freddie’s Choices
The Right Choice Stop making excuses, be responsible Call the employer explain to them that you have had a change of heart Apologize for troubling them Thank them Follow-up with a handwritten note of apology Which Choice is Best? There are other options
Suzie Sleeveless • Is prepared for an interview – all topics have been covered in class including appropriate attire • Arrives for the interview wearing – • A tank top • Low cut jeans which show her midsection • Sandals • Rings on all fingers and thumbs
