  1. How to Save Documents to a CD

  2. Why do I need to know how to save or burn a CD? There is not unlimited storage space at TCS. This has become a problem that has prevented teachers and students from saving files even though they have not met their storage disk quota of 1 GB for teachers and 512 MB for students. Teachers will begin to receive warnings once they have reached 900 MB (0.9 GB) and students at 500 MB. Once the maximum storage has been reached YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE ANYTHING until you delete other files. We WILL NOT be deleting any of your files. However, if additional storage space is needed for educational purposes, complete a WORF requesting the increase in space explaining the need.

  3. How do I find out where I have a lot of files saved? The most common areas where a lot of space is use is in pictures, music and videos. • To see how much space is being used: • 1. Go to your My Documents • Right click on My Pictures, My Music or • My Videos • Select Properties • The current amount for the file is • next to size. • Remember to TOTAL limit for ALL your • Files is 1 GB (1,000 MB).

  4. But I need these files Do you need these files every day or just every once in a while? Do you play the music for transition times or during quiet work time? Pictures, music and video is easily viewed and listened to while on a CD. In the next few slides, you will learn how to burn files to a CD. Important, CDs maximum storage space is 700 MB. If you have extremely large amounts of information to save to a CD, you will need to save information to multiple CDs. I recommend that you make a Picture CD, a Music CD and a Video CD. If you have CD-R, you can only record once. However, if you have CD-RW, you can record multiple times until your storage space is used. CD-Rs and CD-RWs can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, Office Deport, Staples, etc. Because space is limited, storage should be reserved for educational purposes and not personal files.

  5. Saving to a CD • 1. Go to your My Documents • Right click on the exact file or • folder of files that you wish • to save to a CD • Select Send To • Select DVD-RAM Drive (D:) • A window will appear where the • the copying process will begin. • Also, a small bubble will appear • in the lower right hand corner • that states you have files waiting • to be written to the CD. • Repeat these steps until you have • moved as many files as needed to be saved to the CD. REMEMBER, the CD • will only save 700 MB of information.

  6. How do I know if I am trying to save over 700 MB to the CD? • Select Start in the lower left hand corner • Select My Computer • Double click on DVD-RAM (D:) • Click once on any file • Select Control A to select all the files • Select OK if it states there are any hidden files • Right click on any file • Select Properties • Next to size, you will see the amount of space needed for those files • If it is over 700 MB, right click on a file and select delete to remove it from this list. It is not deleted from the original location. This is a copy of the files from the space it is still stored. • If it is under 700 MB, you are ready to complete the saving process.
