… Fast (<2 µs) Loss Observation Expected Results In dedicated locations, e.g. the PSB injection dump and PS and SPS injection and extraction regions, BLM detectors able to measure losses with a time-resolution better than 2 µs should be installed for observation purposes. Such measurements are expected to be extremely beneficial during commissioning, operational optimisations and other situations where more detailed structure of the beam loss evolution is required. Remarks • Measurements from these detectors will be acquired via OASIS-type systems • No beam-loss interlocking should be made for these measurements on the front-ends
Bernd TB’s Technical Specification of Fast DAQ… Fast BLM acquisition system, B.Dehning
Bernd’s Specification • Sampling frequency, bandwidth • 500 MHz analogue bandwidth relates to a rise time of 0.7 ns (10 – 90%) • Rise time observation 2.3 ns, limited by 1GHz sampling frequency and cable, rise time contribution from analogue part of acquisition almost negligible Fast BLM acquisition system, B.Dehning
??? Objectives/Priorities ??? • I> Beam Instrumentation • Things we must do and are expected to • Request from OP • We should not miss that • Our Specs up to 500 kHz (2 us) • II> Beam Observation • Request from ABP • We should be proactive there and helpful • Fast BLMs up to 500 MHz via (or ‘a la’) OASIS. • III> Instrumentation R&D • This is for us (to be ready for Beam Observation) • One channel somewhere with more for us to test
