Mission Statement: “ASCD, a community of educators, advocating sound policies and sharing best practices to achieve the success of each learner.” It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943. Various positions (teachers, principals, school board members, etc.) from the across the education profession are represented to “reflect the conscience and content of education.” History of the ASCD

  3. Why ASCD? • So, what does all of this have to do with my role as a librarian? Why would a librarian join ASCD? • ASCD is concerned with students. • ASCD informs members of trends in education. • ASCD facilitates discussions and workshops on those education trends. • Learning styles • Integration • Performance assessment • School culture and climate

ASCD Membership Info • There are three main choices from which one member can choose and an additional premium option. • There is also a membership plan for a small group of educators to join together. • And in the “other categories” – retired educators, educators who wish to join with a spouse, and college students may join. • Take the online “tour” of membership features here.

  5. Check out TASCD at this link: http://tennessee.ascd.org TASCD is an example of an affiliate club. They pay dues at a local level which then sends money to ASCD. The purpose and membership characteristics are basically the same. They may have a local periodical publication. Since affiliate clubs are smaller, they may hold meetings or conferences of their own.   6. An e-mail update is sent bi-weekly for “Express” members. All members have access to online newsletters through ASCD login. Subscription to Educational Leadership is available with a “Basic” membership . Periodical Publications
