Persia Rulers Accomplishments Cyrus the Great He united the Persians into a powerful kingdom. The kingdom he captured were Mesopotamia (Babylon), Asia Minor, Syria, Canaan, and the Phoenician cities. His captives liked him because he was merciful, which helped hold his growing empire together.
Persia Rulers Accomplishments King Darius He reorganized the government to make it work better. He divided the empire into 20 provinces known as SATRAPIES. Each satrapies was ruled by an official with the title satrap – protector of the kingdom. All satrap answered to the king. Persia had a large army of professional soldiers. The government paid people to be full-time soldiers who guarded the king. They were called the Immortals.
Persia Rulers Accomplishments Xerxes He was the son of King Darius. He vowed to get revenge against the Athenians. He sent about 180,000 troops and thousands of warships and supply vessels.
Persians Religion Zoroastrianism Founded by a man named Zoroaster. He believed in one god. He viewed this supreme being as the creator of all things and a force of goodness. He also recognized evil in the world. He taught that humans had the freedom to choose right from wrong and goodness would triumph in the end.
