  3. Purpose: understand where water is found and the water cycle • Objectives: • Learn that water is present in the air and what different forms water has • Learn water cycle • Directions: • Discuss water cycle and look at slides. After lesson is complete, then answer questions about water cycle

  4. Water is in air as… Ice Snow Sleet hail • Clouds • Steam • fog, • rain

  5. Water vapor • Water changes from liquid to vapor (gas) when energy heat is added to it. It becomes evaporation. • When water vapor cools it becomes liquid again. This is called condensation.

  6. Clouds • Water droplets in air form clouds • When droplets or clouds get heavy enough they fall to earth and create precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, and hail)

  7. Where does precipitation go? • Some precipitation soaks into the ground • Rest of precipitation collects in ponds and lakes or streams and rivers which flow into oceans

  8. Solid water forms • Water droplets change to solid (snow, sleet, or hail) when the weather is cold enough.

  10. You should now be able to understand the three main parts of the water cycle: Precipitation, evaporation, and condensation. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask.
