What we’ve been doing… • Faculty Development • 13-16 Jun 2011, Crystal City, all JPME schools represented • Case study methodology and immersive gaming in the classroom • Begin to build a logistics faculty community • Operational Sabbaticals • Learning Content • Body of Knowledge • On line capability…collaborative space • First priority = logistics faculty • ICAF elective this semester…”TheDefense Industrial Base and National Security” • Full course; 18 students • Faculty team, to include contract support • Support to Logisticians • EUCOM and AFRICOM log staff discussions • Operational logistics to Navy War College senior course

What we’ve been doing… • L&MR Supply Chain Study • Conducted by RAND…complete this fall • Use existing work to develop enterprise policy/operational recommendations • H/SASC Readiness Seminar • Unions, industry, Services, OSD & professional staff • Assist in framing statutory language • Promote a deeper understanding of key issues • Prepare for a diminishing resource base • Joint Concept for Logistics Experiment(JCLE) • Provide senior SME support/mentorship for conduct of experiment • Serve as core member of Executive Steering Group (ESG) • Operational Contract Support (OCS) • Assist with development of OCS concept • Assist with training, education, and curriculum development across DOD

Supplies Disposal Support Equip Upgrades Replacement / Renewal Support & Supply Contract Support Remediation Facilities & Construction Operations Asset Recovery Systems Integration Transportation Transportation Maint & Opns Training Green & Clean Infrastructure Improvements/Maint Initial Training Systems Modification Storage / Warehousing Technical Data Tech Data Maint Green & Clean Documentation We believe the key here is understanding the “dependencies” between different cost categories; vertically and horizontally Can we develop a serious (immersive) game to help our students not only understand, but to analyze and synthesize the fully burdened costs and other impacts of decisions taken across the life cycle of a system…a life cycle cost model? We believe the answer to that question is “yes!”
