Concrete Pavement Opening Strength • Supplemental Spec Change July 22, 2005 • Performed a Nationwide Survey of DOT’s • DOT’s Average 3000 psi for Opening • KY Changed Opening Strength to 3000 psi • Acceptance Based on 3500 psi at the Required Age
Concrete Plants for Large Projects • Supplemental Spec Change July 22, 2005 • Large Projects are ≥250 Cubic Yards • Total Cubic Yardage is for ALL Concrete on the Contract • Concrete Bid Items (example - Concrete Class A) • Incidental Concrete (example – Guardrail End Treatments) • Plants Must be on the List of Approved Materials and Comply with KM 64-323
Coring Concrete Pavement for Thickness • Supplemental Spec Change August 11, 2006 • Contractor Responsible for Performing Coring in Accordance with KM 64-309
Pavement Drainage Blankets • New Change for 2008 Specifications • No Untreated Drainage Blankets • Drainage Blankets will have to be Asphalt or Cement Treated • Type II (Asphalt Treated) • Type III (Cement Treated) • Constructability and Performance Issues
Striping Retroreflectivity • New Changes for 2008 Specifications • Raised the Bar on Retro Acceptance for Permanent Striping, Durable Markings, and Thermo for Intersections • Based on Determination that Higher Numbers Were Easily Achieved and Most Contractors Received Maximum Bonus on District-Wide Projects • All Yellow Thermo Must be Nonleaded • Intend to Set Contracts Up with Temporary and Permanent Striping
Cold Weather Concrete • Future Changes for Specifications • Plan • Temperature Recordings • Temperature Controls • Placement • Curing • ACI 306R, ACI 306.1
