Interviewed my grandmother Gloria Rosenberg • Born September 6, 1943 • Back in 1950s Gloria was seven years old • Just turned 70 in September • “Technology is much different then it use to be.” • Grew up in the time of black and white TV and when radio just started to become a fuss • Can you imagine growing up like that today? • Her husband made a TV from scratch for their family, this was such an accomplishment.
1950s Gloria was the only one to listen to records on her own record player • She loved to listen to Elvis • Her parents didn’t care for records much • Back then they cost less then $10.00 • Single song record was between $1.00-1.25 • An album would cost you around $9.00 • You could get these at • 5 and 10 store • Sears • Record stores RECORDS
She remembers sitting in front of a big wooden box • Gloria and her family loved to sit and listen to stories, and different entertainment shows after dinner • They always advertised for cigarette, and toothpaste on the radio • FM radio didn't’t come out to way later and many people were not in favor of it • Didn’t have as many stations • Had to buy new receiver • Holiday Jingle RADIO
Gloria’s neighbors had gotten a TV and invited everyone in the neighborhood to see it • Everyone was amazed to see something like this • They didn't’t come cheap they cost between $200.00-300.00 • Her whole family loved to watch TV together and grew so close because of it • As she got older she saw a lot of sponsors on TV and she always wanted to buy everything Commercial TELEVISION
MOVIES • Movies in the 1950s were a lot different then they are today • Disney movies were very big • It was very big to go to the movies back then • Many films that influenced her were • Dancing • Stars • She wanted to be like them • Cinderella
