Imperfect progressive. The imperfect progressive is formed by conjugating estar in the imperfect and adding the present participle (ing) . Imperfecto (estar) Estaba Estábamos Estabas Estabais Estaba Estaban.

  1. Imperfect progressive

  2. The imperfect progressive is formed by conjugating estar in the imperfect and adding the present participle (ing). Imperfecto (estar) Estaba Estábamos Estabas Estabais Estaba Estaban

  3. The present participle (ing) is formed by dropping –ar/-er/-ir and adding –ando for –ar verbs and –iendo for –er/-ir verbs. Ejemplos Cruzar – cruzando Comer - comiendo Escribir – escribiendo

  4. Cantar Estaba cantando Estábamos cantando Estabas cantando Estabais cantando Estaba cantando Estaban cantando Lavarse Me estaba lavando (Estaba lavándome) Te estabas lavando (Estabas lavándote) Se estaba lavando (Estaba lavándose) Nos estábamos lavando (Estábamos lavándonos) Os estabais lavando (Estabais lavándoos) Se estaban lavando (Estaban lavándose)

  5. Remember stem-changing verbs don’t stem change unless they end in –ir from e-i or o-u. Decir- diciendo Pedir – pidiendo Repetir – repitiendo Servir – sirviendo Vestir- vistiendo Dormir – durmiendo Morir – muriendo Preferir - prefiriendo Seguir – siguiendo (does not follow the triple vowel rule)

  6. Triple vowel rule The following words have y in the present participle. • Caer- cayendo • Leer – leyendo • Traer- trayendo • Oír – oyendo • Distribuir – distribuyendo • Construir- construyendo • Creer- creyendo Imperfecto progresivo – Ana estaba leyendo el libro.
