The rosary was given to Saint Dominic by Our Lady. He then passed on the rosary to many people who began to pray it.
The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses" Roses are Our Lady’s most favourite flower. Every time we say a decade of the Rosary it is like handing a rose over to Our Lady with all our intentions held within the petals of the precious rose.
The Rosary Beads There is a cross at one end. Here we bless ourselves and recite the creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Rosary Beads The cross is followed by five beads representing one Our Father, Three Hail Marys and aGlory be. We usually pray these five prayers for an increase of Faith, Hope and Charity throughout the whole world and for the Pope’s Intentions. Our Father: Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary: Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen. Glory Be to the Father: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Decade • After this there are 55 beads, divide up into 5 sets. Each set of ten beads is called a Decade and each bead within the decade represents one Hail Mary (10 Hail Mary’s within a Decade). Before each decade we pray one Our Father. • Each decade is dedicated to a “Mystery" in the life of Jesus or Mary. • A mystery is something we cannot fully understand.
Mysteries tell the story of Jesus • Joyful Mysteries (His birth & youth) • Luminous Mysteries (His life & miracles) • Sorrowful Mysteries (His death) • Glorious Mysteries (His resurrection)
Why should we pray the Rosary? • Many of us see the Rosary as a very long prayer and it can be difficult to find the motivation to say it. However, Our Lady has said the Rosary is the most holiest of her jewels and praying her Rosary regularly can make a profound difference in our lives. The more often you make the effort to pray the rosary, the easier it becomes to say. Michaela was an avid ‘pray-er’ of the Rosary; she prayed the Rosary every day, mostly on her car journey to work, in her house with her family or at her local Grotto. ** Fun Fact** It only takes 15 minutes to say the Rosary which is 2% of the time in our whole day! Not really a long time at all!
“When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary.” Our Lady to Blessed Alan de la Roche Our Lady herself has said.... “You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.” Our Lady to Blessed Alan de la Roche

Golden Rose, Queen of Irelandall my cares and troubles ceaseas I kneel with love before youLady of Knock, my Queen of Peace. Though your message was unspoken, still the truth in silence lies, as we gaze upon your vision, and the truth I try to find. Here I stand with John the teacher, and with Joseph at your side, and I see the Lamb of God, on the Altar glorified.
