Nervous System Sinai Robledo
Functions of the Organs • The function of the nervous system is to send signals from a cell to another/others. • One multiple way that the cell can send signals to other cells is by releasing chemicals called hormones. • The nervous system is an organ system. • The fastest nerve signals travel at speed that exceed 100 meters per second
Vocabulary • Neurons (A network of specialized cells.) • Axons (Neurons send signals to other cells as electrochemical waves traveling along thin fiber. • Glaial cells (The nervous system contains those specialized cells.) • Neuroscience (The study of the nervous system.) Perineum (A small bundle of nerve fibers.)
Diseases of the System • Alzheimer Disease (Some of the most frequently symptoms of the disease include inability to remember facts and events, which later on it would be hard to recognize friends or even family.) • Parkinson Disease (It effects the brain.)
Facts • The nervous system is divided into two parts, the central nervous system & the peripheral nervous system, in human beings. • There are millions of nerve cells in the human body. • The diameter of the neurons can range between 4 to 100 microns.
