  2. In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius buried Pompeii and Herculaneum beneath layers of ash.  Mount Vesuvius entered a dormant state in 1037 AD. In 1631, it killed 4,000 inhabitants. August 24, 79 A.D there was and earthquake caused by the cracking of the volcano. History

  3. Mount Vesuvius is a composite volcano. It is smaller than a shield volcano, but bigger than a cinder cone. It has six types of eruptions, but four of them are very rare. It has sticky lava. Mount Vesuvius is 400,000 years old. It's one of the Earth's most dangerous volcanoes. 1281 mi. high. Type Of Volcano

  4. 1.5 million people live on the slopes of Vesuvius. It has fertile land. They grow olives, vines, nuts, and orange and lemon trees on the side of the mountain. Attracts tourists which boosts the economy. Provides geothermal energy, which is extremely clean and never runs out. Benefits

Pliny The Elder • Pliny the Elder was an official in the Roman Court, and was in charge of an active fleet of ships near the bay of Naples. • He noticed Mount Vesuvius was bulging, and wanted to go investigate. • As he was leaving the house, he was handed a message from a friend, who lived at the base of the mountain, that read escape was impossible except for by boat.  She was pleading for help. • Pliny took a boat, and courageously went to help rescue his friend, and picked up many people on the way. • After bring them to somewhere safer, Pliny was stuck on his boat, and couldn't go anywhere.  He tried to go to shore, but the waves were to dangerous. • There was much ash, smoke, and gaseous fumes in the air, which was effecting Pliny the Elder very much.  He started to get sick from all the junk in his lungs, and was found on the 26th of August, his body intact and uninjured, but still, very dead. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/pompeii.htm
