TIP utilizes a three-step process to confront truancy. • Step 1 – The student and his/her parent will be sent to a mandatory meeting on compulsory attendance law, at the meeting two major points will be emphasized. • Parents should send their children to school to improve the children’s quality of life. • Education is as essential as food, clothing and shelter • Step 2- is the SART (Student Attendance Review Team) a SART hearing is a one on one meeting with the Ramsey County Attorney’s office, at this meeting a contract is drawn up between the county attorney and the student with the specific purpose of improving the student’s attendance and avoid court. • Step 3 – if attendance doesn’t improve the County Attorney’s Office will prosecute the student, the parents or both.
