  1. GMB PAY PRESENTATION

  2. BACKGROUND • Claim - £1 an hour • Initial offer - 1% less NMW • Actual offer - 1% plus bottom loading • Consult – Reject – Strike ballot voted yes • J10 Strike - kick-started further talks • Final proposals – GMB suspended 14 Oct planned strike

  3. ABOUT THESE PROPOSALS • Cover 1.4.2014  31.3.2016, 2 years • Combination of % pay rises plus cash lump sums • Based on the national pay spine … … made up of Spinal Column Points (SCPs) • How these relate to you • Future working relationship

  4. THE PROPOSALS • Consol. pay rise, Jan 2015: 2.2%, more for lower paid • Non-consol. lump sum, Dec 2014; balance Apr 2015 • SCP5 deleted, Oct 15  SCP6 • What this means for you • Why do it like this? • Living Wage strategy • Pay rise not backdated; cash lump sums instead • Other points • Worked examples, FAQs

  5. POINTS TO CONSIDER • Cost to paybill, 2.32% • Most people get 2.2% • Two-year deal – advantages, disadvantages • For low paid – up to £1,000 rise; £7 minimum rate • Cash lump sums useful, if not huge • Best we can achieve through negotiations – no more to be had • Alternative = sustained strike action

  6. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT • Accept or Reject and take sustained strike action • GMB – full postal vote • Other TUs • 14th Nov count, in time for Dec cash lump sums • Or if TU Side rejects – more strikes • GMB’s stance – Best that can be achieved • Use your vote! Non-members can join and vote • Any questions?
