Wisconsin Indianhead Technical CollegeAssociate Degree Nursing Admission Process Step 3: Priority Petition to be Admitted to the ADN Core Program
Wisconsin Indianhead Technical CollegeAssociate Degree Nursing Admission Process PLEASE NOTE!!! We are transitioningto the Priority Petition Process!! We will use this process for the FALL 2013 term, NOT BEFORE We have accepted students forFall 2011, Spring 2012, Fall 2012, Spring 2013
Rationale for the Priority Petition Process • Has been implemented to help ADN students to be successful in the program • Helps ensure the most prepared students enter into the rigorous ADN program • Allows accepted students to focus exclusively on the core nursing courses
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?”
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?” • Is this the right time for me to begin? • Do I have reliable transportation? • Do I have financial support in place? • Do I have family support? • Do I have reliable childcare?
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?” • Is this the right career for me? • Students are encouraged to explore with a WITC counselor the career of nursing fully before making the significant commitment this program and the profession demands—nursing is NOT for everyone!
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?” • How much time will I need to devote to studying? • Many students experience “culture shock” at the rigor and demands of the core nursing program. • For every 1 hour of class, you should expect to study 3 hours outside of class • Seriously
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?” • Should I work while in the core nursing courses? • Successful students work limited hours, if they work at all • It is highlyrecommended that you limit your hours of outside work while in the program • Don’t let a job interfere with your dream to become a Registered Nurse!
Before you proceed with the Petition Process ask yourself: “Am I ready?” • Have I included my family in this decision? • Successful students have supportive family members who are willing to take on some of your responsibilities so that you can be successful at school • These adjustments can be very difficult and family members can grow weary over time • Have an honest dialogue with family members to ensure that they can support you for “the long haul”
If you can honestly answer YES to the “Am I ready?” questions, move forward with the ADN Priority Admissions Petition Process
