Putting the Pieces Together:ESPAM2 Water Budget • B. Contor • November 2009
Two Issues: • ESPAM2.0.2 (GIS part of recharge tool) • "It worked fine when we tested it..." • We haven't yet had time to combine, test, and evaluate • As Stacey showed you, individual pieces look reasonable. • Data are OK? But processing isn’t? • Does it stitch together into a whole that makes sense?
Two things you need to know about... • Soils • Precipitation

ESPAM2.0.2.exe • Interpolation of an interpolation • Cells seldom identically match points • Smooth and purdy
ESPAM2.0.2.exe • Interpolation of an interpolation • Cells seldom identically match points • Smooth and purdy
Alternate Method • Nearest-neighbor assignment of interpolation • Cells identically match points • Not quite as smooth • Uses a fresh data download; any updates the PRISM folks may have made are automatically incorporated.
Reality Check: PRISM interpolates maybe 25 observations to 11,000 square miles. How spun up do we want to get on spatial differences of a mile or two?
