  2. Phantom Limb Pain • Phantom Limb Pain is when a person has lost a part of their body by amputation and thinks that the limb is still there and feels sensations coming from that area. • It is not usually felt by children under four. • The phantom pain may be felt right after the amputation or even after months or years.

  3. Symptoms • In addition to pain, some people experience other things such as tingling, cramping, heat, and cold in the portion of the limb that was removed. • Any feeling that the limb could have experienced prior to the amputation may be experienced.

  4. Caused By? • Phantom Limb Pain is caused by the nerve endings at the site of the amputation to continue to send pain signals to the brain that make the brain think the limb is still there.

  5. Is it curable? • Is phantom limb Pain curable? • Some people recommend the mirror trick, this is where the patient moves their feet(obviously only one foot) in front of the mirror. This is a long therapy session(may take weeks) Then the persons body will take affect to the fact that their foot is gone. • Others recommend just pain killers, but it will not cure it.
