One Day Before Last Minute Details • Team Leaders should call donors to remind them of their appointment. • This is the last reminder with a personal touch • Schedule a walk through with the facilities maintenance department • Clear reserved rooms of excess furniture and make sure the reception/waiting area has been arranged for the donors • Post signs directing donors to the blood drive • Remind security about the blood drive so they can let Blood Centre Personnel in and out of the building and direct donors to the donation site
Blood Donation Camp Day • The coordinator should be at the site 60 minutes before the first scheduled appointment to greet the blood collection personnel and to handle any last minute details • As the donor arrive, someone should be there to check off the donor’s name on the appointment schedule • Assign someone to make reminder calls to scheduled donors who are not present at their scheduled appointments • Thank all participants as they leave whether or not they were able to give blood • Notify building management when the last appointment is finished
Day after drive • Send Thank You letters to Donors. The donors who participated this time this will probably donate in future • Prepare “Thank You” letters to team leaders for their assistance and support • Follow up with “no-shows”. Kindly ask why they did not come to donate • May be you can ease their fear for next year • File all your notes and paper work generated during the drive. • They will be helpful when organizing another drive
Tips For Signing Up Donors • Talk to each potential donor in person face to face • Personal contact is the only way to be sure that potential donors realize how important their donations are and how many people they may be helping • Be Enthusiastic :Your commitment will become their commitment • Be confident: You are asking people to do something that will help other people and make them feel good about themselves • Be prepared: Know the day, date and time of your blood drive, have enough brochures on hand for your calls. Know where the drive will be held • Incorporate the entire community: Place posters or flyers in well trafficked retail locations • Use an opening phase: We are sponsoring a blood drive in two weeks .If you just give one hour of your time to donate blood, you will be helping as many as four people who are fighting for their health and their lives. Give reassurance ,draw upon your own donation experiences: “Here is what to expect: you will register ,giving your name ,address and other basic information. Next ,your health history will be taken. The blood donation itself lasts for five to ten minutes. The needle will feel like a mild pinch and that is all, Afterwards, you will rest for a short while, and have some coffee or juice and may be a biscuit or two” I am too Busy Inform them “ I know how busy you are, many of us are. But we give blood anyway because it is urgently needed. It only takes about an hour” I would donate but unfortunately I will not be around that day Thank them for their good intention.
