  2. CRCTInformation What is the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test? The CRCT is a standardized test designed to measure how well students acquire skills and knowledge. What is the purpose of the CRCT? This information is used to diagnose individual students’ strengths and weaknesses as related to instruction, and to gauge the quality of education throughout Georgia.

  3. CRCTInformation What grade levels are tested? First grade through fifth grade What subjects are tested? Grades 1-2 Reading, Language Arts, and Math Grades 3-5 Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science When will the CRCT be administered? April 14 – April 23 What time does the CRCT begin? 8:00 a.m. sharp!

  4. What are the Gateway Years? 3rd, 5th and 8th Grades • 3rd grade students must pass reading • 5th grade students must pass both reading and math

  5. CRCTPerformance Levels Level 1: Does not meet standards Level 2: Meets standards Level 3: Exceeds standards

  6. Passing the CRCT Scores required to pass: Reading: minimum passing scoreis 800 (3rd and 5th grade) Math: minimum passingscore is 800 (5th grade)

  7. CRCTQuestions What happens if my child does not pass? They will be placed in remediation classes during the school day. Will my child have a chance to retake the CRCT? Yes, during the last week of school. New for this year: There will be NO SUMMER SCHOOL. Remediation will be during the school day.

  8. Compton ElementaryRemediation/Re-tests Time: 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Instruction: reading/writing skills and/or math skills This will take place within the school day.

  9. What can parents do to prepare their child for CRCT testing days? • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep. • Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast. • Make sure your child is on time for school.

  12. Let’s Practice… Reading Strategy Option 1: (Primary grades without multiple paragraphs will skip R and L) UNRAAVEL U - Underline the Title (Clues can sometimes be found in the title.) N - Now Predict (What might the story be about based on the title?) R - Run through and Number the Paragraphs A - Are You READING the Questions? (Reading questions before hand can help you recognize information while reading the story.) A - Are the IMPORTANT Words Circled? (Circling important or unfamiliar words in the questions and the story can help identify information and answers.) V - Venture through and Read (Read the story slowly and carefully.) E - Eliminate Obviously Wrong Answers L - Let's Answer Questions and Write Paragraph Number Where Answer is Found (This shows the teacher that you do in fact know where the answer came from.) So "UNRAAVEL" a good story today!

  13. Reading Strategy Option 2: • Read the questions before reading the passage. • Read the entire story. • Look back if you don’t remember the answer. • Skim or scan to find the answer. • Use context clues. • Use inferencing strategies if the answer is not stated in the story.
