CANDLELIGHTERS MISSION The purpose of Candlelighters is to provide emotional, educational, and practical support to children with cancer and their families. In addition, Candlelighters CCFA desires to promote childhood cancer awareness and the need for childhood cancer education and research in our community. HISTORY OF CANDLELIGHTERS • Began in 1988 with a small group of parents • Incorporated in April of 1992 • Received 501 (c)(3) status • 2006 received funding from the Houston Endowment, Cockrell Foundation, Variety Club, MD Anderson’s Children’s Art Project, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for The Parent Consultant Program Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance
PARENT CONSULTANT PROGRAM • Unique Program, only one of its kind in Houston • Trained Parent Consultants • Parents of children who have had cancer • Work one-on-one with childhood cancer families • 4 PCs working out of MD Anderson and Texas Children’s Cancer Centers Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance
PROGRAMS & SERVICES • Each month serves 800 – 1100 families who are receiving cancer treatment for their child at the Medical Center and/or who reside in one of the 13 counties of the greater Houston area • Parent Consultant Program • Newsletter 4 – 6 times per year • Weekly support group meetings Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance

IN THE YEAR 2006 . . . Through generous donations of time and money, Candlelighters was able to provide: • Over 11,000 families received one-on-one support • 622 meal passes at the treatment centers • 226 grocery gift certificates • 7,646 parking validations • 1350 hours of direct support to families at treatment centers, home visits, phone contacts, attending funerals, and weekly support meetings • Assistance to 170 families through Adopt-A-Family For The Holidays Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance

La Carrera Panamericana History • 1950 -Mexican Government scheduled a six-day, border-to-border race in order to celebrate the completion of Mexico's portion of the Panamerican Highway - the Carrera Panamericana was inaugurated. • 1953-First Race sanctioned as a sports car racing event on open roads in Mexico, similar to the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio in Italy. Running from a southern Mexican west-coast city towards Texas. (1950-1954). Many of the world’s most famous drivers, including world champions like Phil Hill and Juan Manuel Fangio, came to Mexico during these years to test their cars, skill, and stamina. • 1992 -La Carrera Panamericana is released featuring a soundtrack by Pink Floyd, displaying guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and manager Steve O'Rourke competing in the race. • 2007 –Pony Up Racing makes its first entry to raise money for the Candlelighters CCFA in the 50th anniversary race. Car- 1966 Ford Mustang • 289 “Hi-Po” V8 271 bhp/ 312 lbft of torque. • 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds • The original “Pony Car” • 1964- First and second in class in the 1964 Tour de France international rally- an historic racing career begins • Jerry Titus, Bob Johnson and Mark Donohue drove GT-350s to national titles in 1965, and the GT-350 went on to win SCCA B-Production national championships for three straight years. • 1966 was the inaugural year for the SCCA Trans-Am series, and Mustangs found a new racing home. Jerry Titus, in a Shelby-prepared Mustang, won the season finale at Riverside. All told, Mustang racers won four of the seven series races and Ford won the manufacturers’ championship.
