FARM BILL 2008 – Update Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 Section 10202: National Clean Plant Network USDA shall establish “National Clean Plant Network” of clean plant centers for pathogen diagnosis and elimination to: (1) produce clean propagative material; and (2) maintain blocks of tested material throughout USA Clean plant material made available to: (1) a State for certification programs; and (2) private nurseries and producers

5. FARM BILL 2008 – Update (continued) USDA shall consult with State Departments of Agriculture and Universities To extent practicable and with input from State officials and industry representatives, use existing Federal or State facilities to serve as clean plant centers Funding – $ 5,000,000 annually for each of 4 years (2009 - 2012); available until expended

Plant Health Programs  Plant Safeguarding & Pest Identification APHIS Alignment with NGWI Research Priorities Several, including ‘Quality’ and ‘Sustainability’ • 1.2.1[Quality] - Establish a national network to provide growers with a broad range of disease free grape varieties, root stocks and clonal materials which have been evaluated for regional stability and quality attributes. • National Clean Plant Network • National Grape Registry • 1.2.2[Quality] - Preserve and utilize national grape germplasm stocks to develop and expand commercial accessions that meet regional industry cost and quality requirements, and eliminate production hurdles relating to pests/diseases and environmental stress. • 4.6.1[Sustainability] - Improve understanding of vine and pest/pathogen interactions in order to develop new and innovative detection and control methods that reduce costs and environmental impacts.
