Technical Issues (1) • Presentation of the latest Design Kit release by M. French • Design Kit ver. 1.03 runs on CADENCE ver. 4.4.3 • New functions & bug fixes • EUROPRACTICE support • New I/O pads by G. Cervelli • Slew Rate controlled output pads • New ESD protection scheme • Bandgap cell degradation with Irradiation by G. Cervelli • Change in reference voltage of ~10% after 27MRAD • Leakage current of the bandgap diode. • Fixes are on the way (reduce the diode periphery, increase the reference current) KLOUKINAS Kostas EP/CME-PS
Technical Issues (2) • Optional fabrication layers • High value PC resistors. Not supported. • Metal-to-Metal capacitors (MIMCAP) Standard option. • Fuses (factory laser blown). Supported at an extra charge. • New general purpose blocks • Currently available: Bandgap voltage reference & SRAM • DACs, ADCs, I2C interfaces, OPAMPs, … • Update website. • Status of the SRAM macrocell by K. Kloukinas • Measurements from test chips • SRAM macrocell popularity • Design support KLOUKINAS Kostas EP/CME-PS
CERN SRAM popularity ! • ATLAS SCAC chip • Memory configuration: 128 x 18bit • Detector: ATLAS tracker • Lab: NEVIS Labs • Designer: Stephan Boettcher • Status: Tested O.K. • ATLAS DTMROC chip • Memory configuration: 128 x 153 bits • Detector: ATLAS TRT • Lab: CERN • Designer: Robert Szczygiel • Status: Tested O.K. • CMS K chip • Memory configuration: 2K x 18 bits • Detector: CMS Preshower • Lab: CERN • Designer: Kostas Kloukinas • Status: work in progress • ATLAS MCC chip • Memory configuration: 128 x 27bit • Detector: ATLAS PIXEL • Lab: INFN Genova • Designer: Roberto Beccherle • Status: Tested O.K. • ALICE AMBRA chip • Memory configuration: 16K X 9 bits • Detector: ALICE Silicon Drift Det. • Lab: INFN Torino • Designer: Gianni Mazza • Status: Submitted • ALICE CARLOS chip • Memory configuration: 256 X 9 bits • Detector: ALICE Silicon Drift Det. • Lab: INFN Bologna • Designer: Alessandro Gabrielli • Status: work in progress KLOUKINAS Kostas EP/CME-PS
Technical Issues (3) • Yield experience by A. Marchioro • Some projects report variable yield (20%-80%) per lot. • The problem affects big analog chips. • Problem is under investigation in collaboration with the foundry. • Design guidelines: be conservative, do not violate foundry design rules & recommendations, be very cautious for the “antenna effect”, add testability features. • Update of submission procedures by F. Faccio • Info on the http://cern.ch/deepsub • Common Packaging Problems • Are there common needs for packaging ? • Send “packaging preferences” to A. Marchioro. • Is it possible to coordinate the packaging work? • Documentation by F. Faccio • Prepare a collection of “design flows”, “recipes”, “scripts” and “notes” that various designers have made. Make it available to all DSM users. KLOUKINAS Kostas EP/CME-PS
Organizational issues • Plans for MPW in 2002-2003 • MPW 8 scheduled for Aug. might be postponed for Sept. It will be a “costly” run. • MPW 9 scheduled for Oct. will be postponed for Dec. Big demand for participation ! • Next year there might not be many “general purpose” MPWs. • Extension of contract with foundry by A. Marchioro • Faster MPW delivery from the foundry • New exportation license will allow the European fabrication line to export goods to Europe! • Situation with export licenses • There is a clear distinction between “standard” and “Radiation Tolerant” designs. • All RadTol chips shipped to institutes have to return at CERN by 2005. • Utilization of the technology for non LHC purposes KLOUKINAS Kostas EP/CME-PS
