  2. Learning Outcomes Participants will be able to compare & contrast how 1 institutional extended orientation program has evolved over a decade’s journey. Participants will be able to apply 2 key elements of Schlossberg’s Transition Theory (1995) and Astin’s Student Involvement Theory (1985) to an extended orientation program. Participants will be able to describe the needs of their extended orientation programs. IMPACT Retreat 2015

  3. What is IMPACT? Infusing Multiculturalism Pride Awareness Connections Training IMPACT Freshmen Leadership Retreat at the University of Central Missouri is a 3 day extended orientation retreat for first year incoming students. Developed with the goal of attempting to combine Leadership and Student Involvement into one central focus IMPACT Retreat 2009

The Beginning (2006) Originally designed as the kick-off event for the new student leadership program. $40 registration fee → 6 meals, t-shirt, water bottle, bag, transportation & 2 nights of lodging at off-campus venue Key buy-in from Enrollment Management & Admissions Not really for sure what the future would hold…

  7. The Beginning (2006) Camp Bobwhite – Knob Noster State Park 75 student participants – maximum for camp facilities 10 student facilitators – Office of Campus Activities student leaders 10 faculty/staff facilitator volunteers Quantitative data – fall-to-spring & fall-to-fall retention data

Years 2 (2007) & 3 (2008) Changes 125-150 student participants New campsite → Camp Palestine in Chilhowee, MO Formalization of student staffing New buy-in from departments & offices September Reunion Additional day of programming → 3 ½ days Addition of NODA Summer Intern Scholarships provided by student organizations

  10. IMPACT 10 years later (2016) Student Leadership retreat focused on student engagement and involvement $75 registration fee 42 Student Facilitators and 182 Participants On campus housing
