  2. Objectives Students will: • Add “er” to adjectives to compare two nouns. • Add “est” to adjectives to compare more than two nouns. • Use “more” and “most” with long adjectives to compare nouns. • Proofread for correct adjective forms.

  3. Rules • Adjectives describe nouns. • To compare two people, places, or things add “er” to the adjective. • One person: • My brother is tall. • Two persons: • My brother is taller than my mother.

  4. Rules • To compare three or more people, places, or things add “est” to the adjective. • One person: • Sally is smart. • Two persons: • Sally is smarter than you. • Three or more persons: • Sally is the smartest student in class.

  5. One syllable adjectives: Add ‘er “ or “est” to the adjective. Bright Brighter Brightest Adjectives ending with “e.” Drop the “e” and add “er” or “est.” Safe Safer Safest Rules for comparing with adjectives

  6. Adjectives ending with a consonant and y. Change the “y” to “i” and add “er” or “est” to the adjective Busy Busier Busiest One syllable adjectives that end with a single vowel and a consonant.
