The Bar Exam 3. The Performance Test Brace yourself! This part of the exam actually tests what lawyers do • 39 states (PA & NY included) • Assigned writing task • “Library” of facts and law • No memorization of law at all
BECOMING A LAWYER • Pass the MPRE (except MD & WI) • Graduate! (For NY, take P.R. course) • Pass the Bar Exam (late July after grad) • Pass character and fitness review • In some states . . . • Extra requirements (e.g., NY—pro bono hours; OH—substance abuse seminar)
