I want to become a carpenter because…. It was suggested to me that I should become a carpenter when I grow up. I think becoming a carpenter is a good job for me because I like to build things such as a bird house or a catapult. A carpenter works for a living, and that’s a good way to make money to pay your bills. Even though I want to be an architect when I grow up, I might be a carpenter, too.
Learning to become a Carpenter Learning to be a carpenter can start in high school. In English, algebra, geometry, physics, mechanical drawing, blueprint reading, and general shop classes prepare students for the training they will need in college. Some employers offer employees formal apprenticeships. These classes take place on the job and in the classroom. Apprentices must be at least 18 years old and must meet local requirements. Apprenticeship programs usually last 3 to 4 years with the apprentice's skill.
Different Types of Carpenters A carpenter can be a contractor which is the same thing, but a contractor just gets bigger jobs, they have more workers that help them, and they can make more money per job. Building contractors work on a number of small and large buildings, including new and custom home constructions, home additions, and modular homes.
