What is theCatholic Foundation for Northwest Indiana? • The Catholic Foundation for Northwest Indiana was established in 2008 as a non-profit, independent corporation. • Assists Catholics who want their gifts to have a lasting impact on their parishes, schools, and favorite diocesan ministries. • Over $2.1m in assets with endowments permanently supporting parish ministry, catholic education, vocations, and Catholic social services. • Offers you the opportunity to establish a perpetual gift to support your parish, school or any diocesan ministry or program.
Who governs the Catholic Foundation for Northwest Indiana? • The Catholic Foundation’s Board of Directors • Governs all operations and actions by the Catholic Foundation • Consists of Catholics from all walks of life • Reflects the diverse experience of our Diocese • The Catholic Foundation’s Executive Director • Provides direction, planning and operational support
Many Ways of Faithful Giving • Regular Collections -- • Covers Parish general operating and program expenses • Annual Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) • Supports the ministries of the Diocese and Universal Church • Rebates in excess of assigned goal returned to Parish • Capital Campaigns • Multi-year programs to raise money for specific extraordinary expenses • Planned Giving (Endowments) • A perpetual fund to provide on-going support for donor designated purposes • Can be created by a parish, a parishioner, school, group or organization
Advantages to an Endowment • An endowment stays permanently invested. • An endowed gift will never be used up. • Semiannual distributions from endowment earnings will provide on-going financial support to donor designated recipient. An outright gift of cash is depleted over time. • An endowment is an irrevocable legal agreement. • Donors can be assured that their donation will only be used as specified in the endowment agreement. No guarantee that an outright gift of cash will be used as the donor intended.
Establishing an Endowment • Endowment Fund • Initial donation of $5,000 to establish an endowment • Additional donations can be added in any amount • Professionally managed investment portfolio • Low management fees (1%) • Annual distribution of 5% average market value • Flexible Distribution Options • Receive the distribution at the time it is offered • Carry the distribution over to a future payout date • Reinvest the distribution permanently in the fund
