Our Materials • Electricity-Photovoltaic Cells A.K.A Solar Panels • Water- Rain Barrels • Structure- Big Windows • Heating/Cooling- Reflective Roof • Waste- Compost
Photovoltaic Cells A.K.A Solar Panels • Takes in sunlight and converts it to a useable form. Each panel can produce from 100-320 Watts. • This source replaces electricity from the electric company. • Usually put up on or around the building.
Rain Barrels • Collects rain and can be stored for future use. • This replaces the need for water from the water company. • Generally connected to the gutter to collect rain water better.
Natural Lighting • Windows that take up most of the building to let in more light. Can also help heat the building. • Replaces the need for a lot of light bulbs. Also reduces the need for heating.
Reflective Roof • This is known as a “cool roof” since it reflects the suns rays away from the building to keep it cool. • This reduced the need for air conditioning- use less electricity.
Composter • Organic materials are put in the composter and broken down into nutrient rich soil. • This can help the plants and reduce the amount of fertilizer needed for plants. Also helps reduce the amount of trash.
