  11. Livestock ID • What to Send to State 4-H Office • By Feb. 1 • Completed County Summary Form • Email .zip file of images to: mikeande@iastate.edu • Directions for emailing images are on the websitehttp://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock/LivestockID.htm • $2.50/head

Livestock ID • State 4-H Office will upload all retinal images to the online database • Optibrand will not invoice counties; State 4-H Office will pay one fee for all Iowa animals nominated to Optibrand • If your county scans ALL animals (both State Fair and County Fair) contact Mike for details on uploading images for county only animals

New Rabbit Class New • Premier Rabbit Breeder • Novice • Junior • Intermediate • Senior • Recognize 4-Hers who have gained outstanding Rabbit Project skills and knowledge from breeding, raising, selecting and exhibiting their own rabbits entered in the Iowa State Fair 4-H Rabbit Show, and have shared their rabbit knowledge and skills with 4-Hers and at other events during the 4-H year.

Poultry Pullorum Testing http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock/poultry.htm • Be sure to register your county fair poultry show at least 30 days prior to • Form is available on the poultry webpage • Health requirements for exhibition of livestock, poultry and birds at countyexhibitions. Each county fair shall have an official veterinarian who will inspect all livestock, poultry and birds when they are unloaded or shortly thereafter. No Certificate of Veterinary Inspection will be required on livestock, poultry and birds exhibited at a county 4-H or FFA show if inspected on site.

Poultry Pullorum Testing http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock/poultry.htm • All poultry present at exhibitions, shows or sales must come from U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid clean or equivalent flocks, or have had a negative Pullorum-Typhoid test within 90 days prior to the event, and the test must have been performed by an authorized tester. • “Market classes” of poultry do not need tested if they are going to slaughter • Must be kept apart from other birds at least 10 feet apart or an 8 feet high solid partition

Horse Happenings State Fair 2012 • Entry Limits Increased • 2 horses, 4 5 classes • 4-H’er does not have to indicate specific classes/horses @ entry time • New classes added • Miniature Horse Showmanship • Miniature Horse Driving • Miniature Horse In-Hand Trail • Be sure 4-H’ers and counties read the rules on ownership and leasing of horses

Horse Ownership/Leasing • 4H 106C and 4H 106CL • Leasing requirements • If a 4-H’er leases a horse, that’s the ONLY riding horse they can ID • If a family includes more 4-H’ers than horses, siblings can ID the same horse; but that’s the only horse they can ID • Substitutions are allowed for State Fair entries IF the replacement horse is listedin 4hOnline (or ID form) by May 15th

Publication • Sample COOL affidavit form for 4-H’ers • Drug Affidavit forms have COOL wording – counties can use these to keep on file if needed • Beef, sheep, swine, poultry, meat goat • Premise ID – check with your local packer buyer if required

COOL • What 4-H’ers Need to do: • Ask for documentation from their seller • Keep documentation for min. of 2 years Examples of Documentation **Balance sheet, income statement, other financial records, scale tickets and purchase and sales receipts, closeout records and/or feed records or bills, health papers, vaccination or other health treatment records or receipts, shipping records, farrowing, calving, or lambing records, breed association registered pedigrees

COOL • What County Offices Should Do: • Have 4-H’ers sign the Animal Care & Disclosure Statement (drug affidavit) for their particular species (market animals) and keep these on file. • Fill out/sign the appropriate affidavit for your particular packer • Tyson, Hormel has a specific affidavit for county fairs • Otherwise, a general affidavit, signed, and a general listing of exhibitors and animals • Communicate with your local buyer/packer on what they will require from you

Ribbon/Premium Auctions • 4-H 202 states: Animals offered for sale in an animal auction are considered to have changed ownership even though bought back by the original owner or if the owner refuses a bid or says, “No Sale.” Exhibitors may participate in a ribbon auction as long as they don’t sell the project animal. • Be sure you communicate with staff, boards and families
