  2. Welcome to Science! • Homework is due every other day. • Homework will not be given every scienceclass. • Almost all work done in science is based on correctness, not on completion. • Late Work will be accepted, up until a certain point.

  3. Grading • Grades on assignments and assessments are given based on points earned. • Quizzes and tests are weighted as 60% of their total grades. • Homework, classwork, projects, and labs are 40 % of their total grade.

  4. Full Option Science System (FOSS) • No science textbook. ScienceSaurus can be a useful tool for home. • Two Resource books plus other supplementary reading articles. • Very important to have student come before or after school if absent!

  5. Some Earth History Questions • Why/How does the Earth change over time? • How did this rock form? Why does it look the way it does? • Why are there layers in the Grand Canyon? Are there layers anywhere else? How did they get there?

  6. Some Earth History Standards • Earth processes we see today are similar to those that occurred in the past. • Fossils provide important evidence of how life and environmental conditions have changed. • Solid Earth is layered, with a lithosphere, hot convecting mantle, and dense metallic core. • The rock cycle involves old rocks that break down to form sediments that are buried, compacted, heated, and sometimes recrystallized into new rocks.

  7. Some Diversity of Life Questions • What is life? • Why is the Earth so diverse? • Why is the Earth able to sustain life?

  8. Some Diversity of Life Standards • All organisms are composed of cells, the fundamental unit of life. • All organisms must be able to obtain and use resources, grow, reproduce, and maintain stable internal conditions while living in a constantly changing external environment. • Millions of species of animals, plants, and microorganisms are alive today.
