Sunflower HouseFifth Graders • All of us are pulling out weeds to plant sunflowers. Then we put the weeds in the compost. After we put the weeds in the compost we mixed water into the soil. Then Jennifer raked the soil even. Then we planted the flowers. We put the flower seeds on the outer side of the circle so we can make the sunflower house. • --Jennifer and Kacie
We were planting sunflowers around the circle while the boys were mixing the soil. Then we covered the seeds, then we put water on them. After that we put on grass seeds. Finally we covered the grass seed with peat moss. • --Morena and Kara G.
We are softening the soil with hoes. The girls were putting rock around the circle. After, we planted the sunflower. Then we threw grass seeds on top of the peat moss. • --Morena and Kacie
Jennifer is raking the dirt so it can be even. The soil is wet so it can be better to rake. It is also wet so we can put the flower seeds in the dirt. We also wet it because we have to put grass seed and peat over the dirt. Jennifer was also mixing the dirt. • --Jennifer and Kara G.
My classmates and I are planting some seeds. We put mulch over it. First we put seeds all over the soil. We planted sunflower seeds. We put peat moss. All of us helped. When we were done we watered the area, then did all the rest. • Kara L. and Leslie B.
This is when we were putting peat moss on the planted sunflower seeds. We had to put the same amount of peat moss where we planted the seeds. We had to plant the seeds for a second time because the first time we planted, the seeds never came out. Then we put the peat moss on the seeds. • James and Joshua
We are fertilizing the sunflower seeds. As you can see, Jennifer is doing a good job. Frankie is gathering the dirt to cover the seeds. Kacie and Aadam are getting ready to throw the dirt. We don’t know what Jamie’s doing, but we hope he’s fertilizing the seeds. • Galvin and Jon
This is when we were putting the fertilizer on the sunflower circle. As you see we’re almost done putting the stuff on. Before we put it on we cut some weeds and put grass seeds around it. To cut the weeds we used hand hoes. We had more sunflower seeds cause our other ones didn’t grow. • Patricia and Frankie
Planting ChiliFifth Graders • We are preparing to plant chili by pulling out all the weeds. We took all of the cut and pulled weeds to the compost, then we put manure on top. After we put it on we mixed it. When we were finished we fixed the water pipes. • Kacie T. and Kara G.
When our class went to the garden we were pulling out weeds. Then Jennifer was raking up the weeds. Jamie and Galvin are hoeing out a plant from the root. After we were done pulling out the weeds we put them in the compost and Aadam was putting the rocks in order on the path. • Morena and Jennifer
In this picture Frankie and Galvin are planting chili seeds. Gilbert gave us some chili seeds and he told them that we had to wear gloves planting them. While Frankie and Galvin plant seeds, Jamie covers them a little bit. • Aadam
The class cleaned the area to plant chili. The area was raked and rows were made along the water lines. We planted chili seeds that were soaked, dried seeds, and chili plants that were started. These were seeds Gilbert had.
We are planting chili with Gilbert. He is showing some kids how to plant chili. Patricia is planting a different kind of chili. We got the chili in the back of the garages. Celina and Aadam are planting the plants. • Kara G. and Kara L.
