Disclaimer • There are lots of folks that know more about the database than I do. • Only recently have I been asked to have an expanded role in getting the database operational.
Database came out of a request from IDFG to develop an electronic database to store trapping, spawning, incubation and release data to easily create data needed by managers.
Database Goal • Electronically store data related to trapping, spawning, incubation, rearing, and release of anadromous fish produced and released in the lower Snake River. • Develop reports summarizing data.
The Process • Establish a technical committee to describe what information is recorded and how that information is stored. • Establish a policy committee to oversee development of the database • Prioritize and decide what gets implemented and what doesn’t. • Translate the technical committee needs into computer code.
The Process • Technical committee has met and determined data needs • Program code for trapping and spawning modules has been developed.
Trapping module • How many adults? • Age • Marks/tags • Length/sex • Genetic samples • Disposition
Trapping module • The original version did not work as planned. • New version out for Release May 1 that works properly.
Spawning module • How spawns with who- • Integrated/segregated
Spawning module • New version for release by July 1 that works properly.
Where are we? • Policy group has met recently. • Problems have been identified. • Fixes prioritized.
The Future • The program works as envisioned. • Data summarization becomes routine. • Everyone begs to install the program on their computer and use it to enter and summarizr their data.
The Future • We aren’t there yet.
